How it works
One result, two ways to read it.
The total return compares the ending value with the starting value. CAGR annualizes that change across the selected number of years as if growth had compounded at one steady rate.
This is a historical or hypothetical return illustration. It does not account for deposits, withdrawals, taxes, fees, dividends, or the uneven path real markets take.
Common questions
Before you use the number.
What is CAGR?
CAGR is the compound annual growth rate: the single annualized rate that would turn the starting value into the ending value over the selected period.
Is CAGR the same as an actual yearly return?
No. CAGR smooths the path into one annualized number. It does not show the volatility or sequence of returns between the two values.
